About
Our Creative Economy MAs are innovative and challenging in their approach. They provide a learning environment that aspires to the highest levels of quality and relevance to creative professionals. To do this we have created a portfolio of courses, each with their own specific learning agreement, that benefit from the following six key features.
Creativity
While creativity is often 'counter-cultural' requiring the space to 'be different', most education systems are built on shared 'best practice'. This programme is instead about benefiting from difference and the courses will encourage high levels of creativity and 'learning by doing'. In addition, each course will include a supervised 'personal project' that will ensure that you make you own distinctive contribution within this new approach.
Multi-disciplinary
A significant feature of the programme will be the diverse nature of the student intake, mixing individuals from different disciplines within the same creative industries and, uniquely, also those from different creative industries.
Experiential
The first phase of the course is very practical and you will work together to develop your own ‘real’ creative enterprises that will actively trade a new creative product or service. The courses will encourage you to reflect on your own behaviours, skills and attributes, and to evaluate whether you have the right balance to be successful in the creative economy.
Flexibility
As well as experiencing these different aspects, you will develop the flexibility required to work with different skill-sets and specialisations. In part this will be due to the structure of the courses, which will encourage a greater awareness of the entire creative value-chain and its associated practices.
Networking
You will gain key insights into different aspects of the creative process enabling the development of successful relationships across disciplines and organisational boundaries. The courses will encourage networking through the multi-disciplinary nature of the programme and through market-focused projects. These projects will demand the development of crucial industry contacts and career-enhancing networks.
Relevance
Practitioners or managers within a creative enterprise will find that our courses have direct relevance, through encouraging a fuller understanding of the creative process including both content ‘creation’ and ‘production’. Whether you have many years of experience or are relatively new to the creative industries, there will be an emphasis on equipping you with the right balance of skills and knowledge in the specialist area of your choice.
